Symposia is excited as we continue to work with Hope College professors on developing digital marketing learning initiatives for students.
A few of us at Symposia are Hope alumni ourselves, so we love the opportunity to continue interacting with our alma mater to make a positive impact.
CEO (and Hope alum) Timothy Haines started Symposia right around the time where social media, email marketing, and digital advertising really started taking off. Fast forward to 2020, where digital marketing is now a crucial piece of all sizes and types of organizations. For anyone entering the job market or wanting to join this exponentially growing industry, there are important skills to know.
Most students now grow up with social media, but we want to show them that digital is so much more. It’s a newer field than most typical college majors, so we want to give those up-and-coming professionals an opportunity to learn and build these skills before they enter the workforce.
So – what exactly are we doing? Symposia is collaborating with Hope College’s business department to plan, develop, and lead course content to train students on digital marketing terms, strategies, and real-life applications. We’re grateful for the platform and academic support from marketing professors Dr. Steve VanderVeen, Dr. Marcus Fila, and Jackie Nickel.
Course curriculum can be divided into three main sections:
- Course objectives
- Digital marketing basics
- Examples of how digital marketing is leveraged
With our industry expertise, we’re teaching students about:
- Content creation
- User experience
- Public relations
- Sales funnels
- Marketing channels
- Pay per click advertising

Students in Hope’s Marketing Management class also focus on one real-life “client” as a semester-long project, and we help them apply our course materials to create a marketing strategy/campaign for their clients. Not only do the students grow in their learning, but the organizations they work with benefit, as well.
The future of digital marketing is a wide open door, so we’re ready to keep leading future generations into an exciting career.
